What is Web Attack?

There are what antivirus software should i use many ways attackers can target web applications (websites which allow you to communicate with software via a browser) to steal confidential data, introduce malicious code, and then take over your computer or device. These attacks exploit vulnerabilities in components such as web applications, content management systems and web servers.

Web app attacks make up the majority of security threats. In the last decade, attackers have honed their skills in identifying and exploiting vulnerabilities that impact security perimeters for applications. Attackers are able to circumvent the most common defenses using methods like phishing, social engineering and botnets.

A phishing scam involves tricking victims into clicking an email link that contains malware. The malware is downloaded onto the victim’s system and grants attackers access to computers or devices. Botnets are networks of compromised and infected devices, which attackers use to launch DDoS attacks or spread malware, to continue ad fraud, and more.

Directory (or path) traversal attacks use movements patterns to gain access to files on a website, its configuration files and databases. Sanitizing inputs is essential to safeguard against this kind of attack.

SQL injection attacks target databases that stores critical data for websites and services by injecting malicious code which allows it to bypass security controls and release information that it normally wouldn’t. Attackers can run commands, dump database information and more.

Cross-site scripting (or XSS) attacks insert malicious code inside a trusted site to hijack browsers of users. This enables attackers to steal session cookies and private information to impersonate users, alter content, and more.
